Thank You! You make a difference

Through donations that the Foundation receives from generous people, groups and businesses, the MSJ Home purchased and/or supported the following initiatives this past year:

  1. Supported the Spiritual Care program for Elders, their families and our Staff;
  2. Provided monies for Staff education, training and development;
  3. Replaced 120 Resident Room Mattresses;
  4. New entry swipe card system for Staff & Resident safety;
  5. Video monitoring system for Alzheimer’s unit for Resident & Staff Safety;
  6. Video monitoring system at entrances for Resident & Staff Safety;
  7. Freshly painted two of the twelve Resident neighbourhoods;
  8. Acquired Ceiling tack lifts for Resident rooms;
  9. Supported workplace wellness initiative

And so much more….

The foundation exists solely to replace and upgrade equipment and furnishings throughout Mont St Joseph Home through a Board approved priority Capital list. This list is very flexible as it needs to be for possible emergent situations i.e. A kitchen thermodine breaks down and needs to be replaced which is used by kitchen staff to keep food hot for meals. This piece of equipment would become a priority over any other capital item that has been deemed a priority. Mont St Joseph Home is currently 17 years old, these types of situations are becoming a very common occurrence which the Foundation helps financially sustain the burdens of the Home as they arise. With that maturity, this building and its equipment has many areas that will require attention, either ‘today’ and tomorrow.  The reality is that most of these needs, if not all, must be addressed by our Foundation – and the generosity of our donors.  Some of these needs may not be considered ‘glamorous’ but are legitimate needs that speak to the safety and comfort of every person who lives, works, volunteers or visits MSJ Home.  The list of items below is an example of the improvements we will need to address within the next 5 years.  The practical reality is that this list will grow as another day passes!  Estimated costs of the list below easily exceed $1 million.  Imagine!

The charity steer project is the regional 4-H members’ way of giving back to the generous communities that have always supported them. The annual charity steer is purchased by the members of the 7 regional 4-H clubs on their own. The members are responsible for raising the steer throughout the 4-H year.

Charity 2013 will make his grand appearance at the finished beef show and sale on June 9th and June 10th at the Prince Albert Exhibition grounds. The steer will be auctioned off to the highest bidder during the sale segment. Mont St Joseph Home is honoured to have been chosen as this year’s Charity to receive all proceeds from the Charity Steer Sale.

This auction raised almost $20,000 which purchased 3 ceiling track lifts for residents.  Thank You 4-H Members!
